Brighter Beginnings

Child and Teen Therapy in Falmouth, MA

Brighter Beginnings is the child and family care path of Kairos Counselings. We provide trauma-informed, somatic-informed care for children, teens, and families in Falmouth, Mashpee, and Pocasset, with some services available in partner schools and select services offered through telehealth when appropriate.

Our work supports children and families dealing with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, behavior changes, trauma, sensory needs, school stress, family transitions, and developmental challenges. We partner closely with caregivers because lasting change rarely happens through the child alone.

Who we help

Children, teens, and families come to Brighter Beginnings for support that feels grounded, developmentally attuned, and connected to real life.

Brighter Beginnings supports:

  • infants and young children with regulation or developmental concerns
  • children with big feelings, behavior changes, sensory needs, or school challenges
  • tweens and teens navigating anxiety, mood changes, identity questions, school stress, or the effects of trauma
  • families adjusting to loss, family transitions, or changes at home or school

Brighter Beginnings provides care from birth through age 17. That age-range clarity helps families quickly understand whether this is the right fit.

Our approach

How We Work

At Brighter Beginnings, we help children and families move toward more safety, connection, and regulation.

Trauma-informed

We understand how trauma and chronic stress can show up in the body, behavior, development, and relationships.

Somatic-informed and sensory-aware

We pay attention to the nervous system, body cues, and sensory needs, not only thoughts or behavior.

Family-centered

Caregivers are included as partners through guidance, check-ins, and practical support.

Developmentally responsive

We tailor therapy to the child’s age, communication style, developmental stage, and environment.

Whole-child focused

We consider home, school, culture, community, and family context when creating a plan.

A distinctive part of our care

Occupational Therapy for Mental Health

We also offer occupational therapy for children who need added support with regulation, sensory needs, participation, and daily routines. This is a distinctive part of the Brighter Beginnings offer and should remain visible because it is also highlighted in your donor messaging.

Occupational therapy can be especially helpful when regulation, sensory needs, or daily participation challenges are part of the bigger picture for a child or family.

Inside the process

What Sessions May Look Like

Play, art, movement, or sensory-based activities

Sessions may use developmentally appropriate ways for children to express, explore, and regulate.

Support with emotional expression and regulation

Children and teens may learn ways to notice, name, and respond to emotions with more steadiness.

Caregiver check-ins and practical strategies for home

Therapy often includes guidance that helps the work carry over into everyday routines and relationships.

Collaboration with schools or outside providers

When helpful, care may include coordination that supports consistency across settings.

Developmentally appropriate tools for coping and communication

Support is shaped around the child’s age, stage, communication style, and environment.

Family involvement matters

Children do best when the adults around them feel supported too.

We include caregivers as partners and provide guidance that helps therapy carry over into everyday life.

  • caregiver coaching
  • joint sessions, when appropriate
  • support with routines, transitions, and co-regulation
  • help understanding behavior through a nervous system lens
Connected care

School and Community Support

When helpful, we collaborate with schools, pediatricians, and other providers so care feels more connected and practical. Brighter Beginnings also connects with school-based counseling in partner schools, which is already part of the current site structure.
