About the event

A coping skills group is utilized to aid in supplement to already your individual treatment or learn some skills for mental health, while you may not have current access to individual therapy at this time (CBT, DBT, Somatic Experiencing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)). Through a psychoeducation approach, you’ll learn a variety of coping skills derived from different treatment modalities to create your own in toolkit that can aid with anxiety, depression, and emotional processing around life stressors and

interpersonal relationships. Each week will consist of at least 1-2 skills taught in group with time in between group ideally utilized to tryout and practice the skill(s).

About the Facilitator:

Emily Monahan-Morang, M.Ed., LPCC is a psychotherapist and sport & performance coach who specializes with working with high performers and achievers, neurodivergent (specifically high masking ADHD and Autism), and LGBTQ+ populations. Through a culturally informed and trauma informed practice, Emily utilizes a wide range of interventions and orientations to meet the needs of her clients. Emily’s approach is described as direct, honest, blunt and is influenced by her background in sport and performance psychology.

Ideal Clients: This group is perfect for anyone who:

  • Want a group that will aid in supplemental treatment to individual talk therapy.

  • Desire skills for mental health but don’t currently have access to individual therapy

  • Wants better skills for managing their mental health.

  • Enjoys learning from a psychoeducation style/approach.

Why Join the Group:

  • Have more than on therapeutic modality informing the group. Many coping skills groups follow one modality (e.g., CBT, DBT) with their group. My preference and style is to incorporate more than one therapeutic modality, as one modality is not going to meet every need or all types of clients.

  • Build connection learning in a group setting. Group work allows the opportunity to build a sense of belonging and shared experience.

FAQs:

  • What to expect from each session? Each session will have a check-in for each group member, go over the 1-2 skills for the session, have discussion and reflection about the skills learned, and end with a check-out/reflection about the group session.

  • How can this group help me manage my mental health? This group is design to teach a variety of coping skills and for each client to figure out through each week if the coping skill(s) taught that week are something that would work for them. Not every coping skill

  • works for everyone and that’s okay.

  • Do I need to have my camera on? It is not necessary to have your camera on for the whole group. Some skills I walk people through I do invite people to turn off their camera. Please make sure though you’re not driving and in a safe place for the group.

  • Do I need to bring anything? Some skills I teach do require a paper and pen/coloring utensils. I recommend people have them nearby. Most skills I will be teaching will not require materials.

  • When and where group meets: Tuesdays 5PM-6PM online for 8 weeks from the start date.

  • What are the costs? Insurance based and sliding scale available.
